Wooden Cutlery Tray

Many people who are wood lovers will appreciate a well finished wooden cutlery tray. Some will even bring it the table for easier access and so it can be appreciated. Now we are talking about a cutlery tray made of wood, not plywood or conglomerate but real wood. Wood has been used to  decorate homes since forever. And yes if you have a tray that is nice and well done you can bring it to the table for everyone to admire, especially if you did it yourself.

Cutlery trays made of pine are nice and light to handle but pine is not a very hard resistant wood. So make sure yours is protected with waterproof varnish or polyurethane varnish. Hard woods are the best for this purpose for their resistance and durability. When you buy it make sure that the walls and divisions are made of wood with a minimum of half a centimeter thickness. Look for one with a thicker bottom. Your wooden cutlery tray will be holding a lot of weight and you do not want the bottom to fall off when you take it out of the drawer.

Measure the inside of the drawer where you will place the tray before buying it. They are made in different sizes and it should fit comfortably and allow you to put your hands inside to remove it. Usually there is some room left around it so you can place other related utensils along with the tray but taking the measurements will assure you of the right decision.

Wooden cutlery trays are also found painted in different colors but it makes no sense to buy a painted one when you can buy one that shows the wood’s true color and grain. Wood should never be painted, it should always be varnished with transparent materials or slightly dyed so the natural beauty of the piece can be seen and enjoyed.

Try to find one that has some cloth protection on the bottom of the divisions so the utensils will not scratch the wood and remove the protective varnish. This will not only protect the tray but will also protect your flatware. Even day to day flatware must be cared for if you want it to last and maintain its luster and shine.

Wooden cutlery trays may be bought in your local store or online. When buying online make sure the dimensions are right because these products are sold to people all over the world and standard measurements in other countries may not be the same used in your country. If the made of the wood used is not familiar to you, check it out, make sure you are buying something durable and made of strong wood. You should always give it a coat of water proof or polyurethane varnish before using to guarantee it is covered with a good product.
